Breaking Barriers: How Mentorship is Shaping the Future of Events
Change doesn’t happen overnight, but mentorship is one of the most powerful ways to accelerate action for women in business.
That’s why we’re so proud of LS Events Senior Projects Manager Laura Armstrong, who is committed to mentoring young people and breaking down barriers to entering the event industry. Laura has mentored for NOWIE - The Network of Women in Events CIC, and has also worked with City Lions, who aim to open up Westminster’s cultural and creative world to its young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to inspire and connect them to the future they want or have yet to discover.
Laura was part of the recent Connection Sessions event held by the Association of Independent Festivals, BIMM University Bristol and Big Team CIC where young people looking for their next roles in the festival industry could secure new connections and obtain paid work at festivals in 2025.
“I am so passionate about breaking down barriers for young people who might not ordinarily get the opportunity to work at live events. I believe in nurturing talent regardless of socioeconomic status and strongly advocate for paid work placements and funded support to help cover travel and accommodation costs for young talent to ensure they get the best opportunity possible to accelerate on their career path.”
Investing in mentorship today means more women in leadership tomorrow. Who has inspired you in your career? Let’s pay it forward! 💜
